Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)

I am little late... technically it is Friday already and I missed Thursday's post, but oh well. I got distracted by my new friend Fred the Penguin who lives in my Facebook photo album. Maybe someday I will bring him here. But now, without further ado or distraction, my song for the day.

I have traveled many moonless nights,
Cold and weary with a babe inside,
And I wonder what I've done.
Holy father you have come,
And chosen me now to carry your son.

I am waiting in a silent prayer.
I am frightened by the load I bear.
In a world as cold as stone,
Must I walk this path alone?
Be with me now.
Be with me now.

Breath of heaven,
Hold me together,
Be forever near me,
Breath of heaven.
Breath of heaven,
Lighten my darkness,
Pour over me your holiness,
For you are holy.
Breath of heaven.

Do you wonder as you watch my face,
If a wiser one should have had my place,
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of your plan.
Help me be strong.
Help me be.
Help me.

Breath of heaven,
Hold me together,
Be forever near me,
Breath of heaven.
Breath of heaven,
Lighten my darkness,
Pour over me your holiness,
For you are holy.

Breath of heaven,
Hold me together,
Be forever near me,
Breath of heaven.
Breath of heaven,
Lighten my darkness,
Pour over me your holiness,
For you are holy.
Breath of heaven.

There are a few reasons I like this song. It is very pretty (although most Christmas songs are). But the fact that it is a song sung from Mary's perspective is really the main reason why I enjoy it so much. Really, it's the only song that I know of where this is the case. As a young woman myself, every time I listen to this song I can't help but put myself in Mary's place and wonder what I would have thought. She must have been a very brave, Godly woman. She didn't know whether Joseph would believe her story about an angel coming to her, or about the baby's father being God. And certainly, no one else would have believed it. But she agree to willingly be used by God anyways, despite all the uncertainty. She trusted Him to take care of her and the baby. This song really brings out a lot of the emotions and question that the young Mary must have had. It never grows old to me, no matter how many times I listen to it throughout the Christmas season.
