John Denver & The Muppets Double Feature

The garment of life, be it tattered and torn,
the cloak of the soldier is withered and worn.
But what child is this that was poverty-born, the peace of Christmas Day.

The branch that bears the bright holly, the dove that rests in yonder tree.
The light that shines for all to see, the peace of Christmas Day.

The hope that has slumbered for 2000 years,
the promise that silenced 1000 fears.
A faith that can hobble an ocean of tears, the peace of Christmas Day.

The branch that bears the bright holly, the dove that rests in yonder tree.
The light that shines for all to see, the peace of Christmas Day.

Add all the grief that people may bear, total the strife, the troubles and care.
Put them in columns and leave them right there, the peace of Christmas Day.

The branch that bears the bright holly, the dove that rests in yonder tree.
The light that shines for all to see, the peace of Christmas Day.
The branch that bears the bright holly, the dove that rests in yonder tree.
The light that shines for all to see, the peace of Christmas Day.

Today's I am featuring a double feature!  Mostly because I couldn't justify giving the Muppet version of the 12 Days of Christmas its own day...

I'm a Muppet fan, one of my favorite movies to this day is still Muppet Treasure Island.  I find their renditions and parody's of songs to be very entertaining.  The Muppet version of 12 Days of Christmas is just about the only version I can listen to without getting bored, which is why it made this list.  But my Dad actually sent me the link to The Peace Carol, which is the first song, and I decided it would be my justification for posting the 12 Days of Christmas.

I didn't really expect the seriousness that came from this Muppet song.  But its really a rather simple reminder of what Christ offers the world, and what was made available when He was born as a baby.  Its interesting that Christmas Day is considered a day of "peace" even by the secular world.  But its not the day itself that brings peace, its the person who's birth we celebrate on that day.  I heard an author recently state that the secularization of Christmas is really something that Christians should be glad for and take advantage of.  So many people celebrate the holiday and do associate it with things like peace and love, it is easier in these days to explain why that is.  Its not because of the day, its because of the baby who was born.  To use the familiar term, He is the reason for the season.
