O Holy Night

O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh hear the angel voices!
Oh night divine! Oh night when Christ was born!
Oh night divine! Oh night! Oh night divine!

Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother,
and in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we;
Let all within us praise his holy name.
Christ is the lord, that ever, ever praise we.
Noel! Noel! Oh night; oh night divine!
Noel! Noel! Oh night; oh night divine!
Noel! Noel! Oh night; oh night divine!

Merry Christmas everyone!

O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas carol, and the Mannheim Steamroller version (the first link provided) is my favorite version.  I thought that Christmas Eve was a good night to feature this song as well.

I really don't know why Oh Holy Night is my favorite.  Its just so pretty!  There is so much feeling behind the words and also behind the music as well.  Listening to this carol helps me to remember why this night is celebrated.  It doesn't matter if there is snow on the ground, or the presents I wanted under the tree or anything like that.  We celebrate because of our savior's birth, and that's all that should be needed to make the holiday special.  It's hard to remember when things don't go right and the weather doesn't cooperate, because those things seem so much more tangible and present in our lives.  But when we focus on the birth of Christ, and look at all the other aspects of Christmas as just added blessings for us to enjoy, then it kind of puts things into perspective.

I hope everyone's Christmas is lovely.  But whether its the perfect day or it seems like a horrible day, remember the real reason we celebrate!

"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Luke 2:10-11
