Still the Greatest Story Ever Told

A woman and an angel, a promise and a song.
A word to grand for any mind to hold.
A tax law and a journey, a stable and some straw.
These tell the greatest story ever told.

Oh sing glory in the highest, he is come our great messiah.
Come bow before this awesome mystery.
Mighty God and fragile baby, here a lowly manger holds.
And it's still the greatest story ever told.

A hillside and some shepherds, a blaze of blinding light.
Angels singing carols in the cold.
Eternal revelation to men as dull as stone.
The glorious, greatest story ever told.

Oh sing glory in the highest, he is come our great messiah.
Come bow before this awesome mystery.
Mighty God and fragile baby, here a lowly manger holds.
And it's still the greatest story ever told.

Oh sing glory in the highest, he is come our great messiah.
Come bow before this awesome mystery.
Mighty God and fragile baby, here a lowly manger holds.
And it's still the greatest story ever told.

And it's still the greatest story ever told.

Still the Greatest Story Ever Told is the title track from the Gaither Vocal Band's Christmas CD.  I could not find one single video or song track of the original version, but the one I have posted isn't too bad.

This is a really great song.  I had already mentioned that this album is a Christmas classic in our house and it really brings the Christmas season alive for me, and this song being the title track is a real favorite of mine.  It really speaks the truth about the Christmas story.  I mean, who would come up with something like the events of the birth of Jesus?  Even if you put aside the miraculous events that took place surrounding his birth, its still an incredible story.  A baby who grows up to be the most influential and important person in all of history, born in a stable--in a feed trough in a stable none the less.  Who could make something like that up?  The fact that in over 2000 years no other person has been born who's birthday is celebrated like Jesus's is shows that the story of Christmas is indeed still the greatest story that has been told.  The best part is is that its not just a story, its a true story.  It wasn't just made up to give us a month of holiday cheer.  It actually happened and it has great meaning and importance to all of our lives, now and for eternity.
